A Brief Introduction
Posted by Jeremy
I always find it amusing to peruse the About Me links littering the blogosphere. You get to see a smorgasbord of self-assessments. Some comical, some braggadocious, some professional, and others downright deceptive. So, for me, approaching the subject of me, is rather challenging.
If I were to take the comical route, I would lay out the comic tragedy that was my youth, with all its foibles and missteps. I'd tell you how I dropped out of high school only to get my diploma early, and other such peculiarities.
On the braggadocious side, I would write of some of my later academic exploits - business degrees, law school, and a PhD. However, I'd be sliding down the slippery slope of deceit if I let you believe I was Dr. Jeremy Cowan, Esquire (neither is true).
But, the bottom line is this, I am married to my best friend, I'm the proud father of two handsome boys, and have a little girl joining us in June 2009. My family is my pride and joy. And while I may pontificate on things less significant, it is always with them in mind.
Having degrees in horticulture and business, there isn't much out there, in the traditional business world, to keep me as engaged and productive as I might otherwise be. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here (ok, maybe).
I am a firm believer in personal responsibility. I think the gulf between action and motive is ever-expanding. And I recognize the American culture as one of the most wasteful on this planet.
With that in mind, I have created AchieveSimplicity.com. Perhaps it will evolve into my own personal incubator for ideas about prudent living; and maybe it fizzles as it circles the bowl of blog obscurity (I rather hope it resembles the first possibility). Either way, I intend to make a good-faith effort as I attempt to identify problems facing what I will call "prudent people," my own analysis of the issues, and practical, responsible ideas on how to manage those problems. Some posts may be borrowed ideas, other outright plagiarized (though I promise to make every attempt to attribute such works appropriately), I hope most will be thoughtful and thought-provoking.
So, all that being said, please join me as I attempt to Achieve Simplicity.
